Glenn Hauser logs March 17-18, 2018

** ANGUILLA. 11775, March 18 at 1405, PMS is back on, and during this hour only // 7490 WWCR, q.v., a new frequency for her, filling a banned Brother Scare slot (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11780, Sat March 17 at 2234, RNA is off during a time which it had been active, at least on weekdays for `A Voz do Brasil` hour, but previous weekends was also on with silly ballgames or whatever. Evidently same transmitter was attempting 6180, as Dave Valko was hearing it there instead plus spur around 6145 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENNG DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11855.78, March 17 at 2231 R. Aparecida in Brazuguese, measured here. As Wolfgang Büschel pointed out, my previous measurement was 1 kHz off as ``below`` 11855: I was paying too much attention to the Hz, too little to the kHz! At 1925-2005 March 17 he had it varying 11855.784 to .788..

So replace previous report with this one as corrected:

11855.792v, March 17 at 0250, R. Aparecida, S6-S9 Portuguese talk. I haven`t measured this one in some time, never right on 11855.000 but had recently been closer, I think (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA [and non]. 392 kHz, March 18 at 0617, ND beacon ML and dash. Dxinfocenter.com shows it`s at Malbaie - Charlevoix, Quebec. But there is *another* ML on same frequency in Monroe LA! The dash distinguishes them, a Canadian thing. Neither QC place is in my Rand McNally atlas index. But the coördinates lead to Malbaie on the north bank of the St. Lawrence, just SW of Rivière-du-Loup, a goodly distance from here, 2593 km = 1611 statute miles, 500 watts per classaxe.com. At same time on same frequency I am hearing another weaker NDB at a slightly different pitch, FMZ, which is much closer in Fairmont-Beklof, Nebraska (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 9720, March 17 at 2244, RHC in English, oh2, another anomaly or change? No, just a passage merely awaiting traduxion into Kriyol; 5040 now is in Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGST)

** CUBA. 15730, March 17 at 2253, weak VP music at S2, which is a VOA frequency earlier, but now per EiBi it`s RHC at 2200-2430 to South America (but nothing shown in the 2230-2300 period). Not in HFCC of course, but not in Aoki/NDXC either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15370, March 18 at 1336, RHC again missing the FMy spurblobs all over the 19m band, as `En Contacto` is underway, Arnie plugging the 60m frequencies, especially 4765, Radio Progreso. Both he and Marta assert that the 4765 schedule is 0130-0500! Oblivious of the EDT shift to one UT hour earlier, and this is a new produxion as they refer to the Equinox. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUATEMALA. 4055, March 18 at 0606, R. Verdad open carrier is still on after publicized earlier 0500 sign-off this date; for their magical Worldwide service to be evaluated? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 5935, poor Sunday March 18 at 1329, Shiokaze typical piano music bed and soft talk; with lite tone/pulse jamming on both sides, which I suppose means a modulated carrier centered on same frequency. JSR Sunday scheduled to transition from Korean to Japanese at 1330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH. 5917.605 or 5917.606, March 18 at 1325, S2-S4 music from the ever-diminishing frequency of Voice of Freedom. This correlates with Wolfgang Büschel`s latest report:

``Voice of Freedom program on 5920v seemingly stopped wandering today. 5917..605_1/2 kHz measured on remote SDR unit at Seoul, S Korea, on March 18 at 08 and 13 UT, S=9+10dB signal strength. Light music noted. Nothing on the jamming front heard/visible on that channel, totally free at this hour`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-USB, March 17 at 2221, S7-S8 vs S9 storm noise crashes, historical docu about Danzig, WWII, maybe narrated by Cronkite? Recheck at 2302, FDR`s famous Dec 7, 1941 ``infamy`` speech to the Senate. Yes, it`s ``WFDR`` pirate, per this thread:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,41116.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935-USB, March 17 at 2348, big band music at S9+10, VG, Billie Holiday? no doubt Wolverine Radio, and IDs at 2353, March 18 at 0016 with soul songs, peaking at S9+20 (much better than 6150 Farty KBC, 125 kW via Germany, so poor as to be unlistenable).

Wolverine has got to be at least 10 kW, and is really an international broadcaster: ``6935 kHz Wolverine Radio - United States of America received in Brazil. Music in 2355 UTC Day 17 March 2018, SINPO 24222
https://youtu.be/r7xgv-wDJ6g
RX: Yaesu FRG 8800 Antenna: Beverage simples DXer: Daniel Wyllyans - Sítio Estrela do Araguaia - Nova Xavantina - Mato Grosso - Brazil
Hard-Core-DX mailing list`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PHILIPPINES. 7590.00, March 17 at 2224, JBA carrier, something clandestine? No, per Aoki/NDXC at 2200-2230 it`s VOA Cambodian via  Tinang since December 15. Only other 7590 entry is N Korea Reform Radio, 1430-1530 via Tashkent (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOMALILAND [and non]. 7120, March 18 at 1333, JBA carrier from R. Hargeisa, overcome by much stronger CQs DE KC9UNL on about 7118.5. KC9UNL is Gidding, Curtis E, in Savoy, IL 61874 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TINIAN. 9325, March 17 at 2229, S4-S6 open carrier, 2230 English opening Radio Free Asia, in ??? HFCC shows IBB in Khmer at 2230-2330, 250 kW, 272 degrees from Tinian since January 20, but still not in Aoki. EiBi has it: adds to another Khmer hour at 1230 on same (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** UGANDA [non]. 15239.943 or 15239.944, Saturday March 17 at 1917, JBA carrier, presumably R. Munansi via WWRB on characteristic off-frequency-minus. Earlier check at 1650 could not hear it, nor via UTwente SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12695.5-CW, March 17 at 2238, ``VVV VVV VVV CQ DE KFS KFS KFS QSX ---``. Tnx to tip via Paul Dobosz, MARE, the Maritime Radio Historical Society publicized March 16 that KPH and KFS would be back on air Saturdays from today: ``The MRHS has completed repairs to their antenna farm and will be back on the air each weekend for your Dit-Dah listening pleasure.``

12808.5-CW, March 17 at 2235, tried KPH first, where faster CW was running and never caught an ID, but sending lots of numbers. Also something on 17016.8, another of its frequencies, but nothing on 8642. I also noticed that the .5 of 12695 was slightly lower than the .5 of 12808. Own website http://www.radiomarine.org/ says:

``KPH, KFS and K6KPH Return To The Air on Saturday 17 March (MRHS) - The crack MRHS Transmitter Department announced today that after a long absence from the air stations KPH, KFS and K6KPH will return, at least partially, on Saturday 17 March. On-air operations were suspended some months ago due to antenna maintenance issues. Some of those issues have now been resolved with the result that a partial return to operation is now possible. Listen for KPH, KFS and K6KPH on these Morse frequencies:

KPH 8642.0
KPH 12808.5
KPH 17016.8
KFS 12695.5
K6KPH 14050

We expect continued operation on these frequencies each Saturday with more to be added as additional antenna problems are resolved.`` Much more at the website. Location is Point Reyes National Seashore, California (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1921 monitoring: Altho I could not hear me at all via UTwente, Alan Gale, at his greater more favorable skip distance in England reports on the Sat March 17 HLR broadcast: ``Hi Glenn, A fair signal on 6190 today, the 1530 GMT broadcast was audible right the way through, with the Chinese station just audible in the background. World of Radio was the definite winner of today's frequency battle. 73 for now, Alan.``

WOR 1921 confirmed Saturday March 17 at 2130 on WBCQ 9330.264v-CUSB, S7-S8, ex-2230 during standard time on Saturdays only; Brother Scare interrupted for ID and this. As usual the frequency is slightly wavering. Also confirmed Sat Mar 17 at 2300 on WRMI 7780, but VP. Also confirmed UT Sun Mar 18 at 0200 on WRMI 7780, also VP. Also confirmed UT Sun Mar 18 starting at 0327 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville MO, Good S9+20! Next:
Sun 2330   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0300v  WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0330   WRMI 9955 to SSE [no longer // 9455]

** U S A. 9395, March 17 at 2230, WRMI Oldies just starting VOA News, as if it were scheduled on the half-hour, but surely a random hit.

9395 // 9455, Sat Mar 17 at 2301, WRMI with `Your Weekend Show`. And 9395, UT Sun Mar 18 at 0201, AWR Wavescan, both with G-VG signals while WOR is JBA on 7780; o well.

7780 // 9395, Sun Mar 18 at 1401, another secret airing of `Your Weekend Show` as Bob is pleased with 9395 and 9455 reception reports (but 9395 now has RTTY QRM). 7780 on Sundays only this hour is supposed to air `Worship in Your Home`. Meanwhile, 9455 also continues secret airings of Radio Eslovaquia Internacional.

ALL these times for YWS, WS and REI cannot be found on any of the three versions of WRMI schedules! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7490, Sunday March 18 at 1405, WWCR is now filling the vacated Brother Scare Sunday-only hour with: PMS! A new frequency for her, // almost synch with 11775 ANGUILLA which is back on at the moment (13845 WWCR-3 is too weak to tell). WWCR program guide dated March 1 still has not been updated to remove The Overcomer Ministry, at 9-10 am CST Sundays on WWCR-2, mis-converted to 15-16 UT, but 9-10 AM CDT Sunday is now equivalent to 14-15 UT! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9025, Sunday March 18 at 1422, no signal here. Dave Valko tipped at 1303 that something strange was being heard Friday and Sunday morning, a loop mentioning Michigan State University:

``Glenn, last Friday and from 1230 this morning, I've been hearing an UNID station on 9025. It's a 1:13 minute long loop and appears to be a promo for lectures by Michigan State University. The majority of the loop is an excerpt of one of the lectures. The high pitch (a la Ross Perot) of the man`s voice made it difficult to copy. A normal-voiced man ends the loop seemingly identifying that it's one in a series of lectures by Michigan State University. Here is what I could copy of the loop from Friday. Just listening this morning, I got a few things wrong. I'll update it later.

"(Man with whiny high-pitched voice:) This ?? of the government pleases everybody. ?? everyone. ?? the design. In God everyone who works for ?? the government …of the government of this country stupendous God ?? 500 million dollars ?? 400 million dollars is ruled by the national government. And ?? our local government. But the ?? is difficult to comprehend. It represents all ?? of all….5 dollars a day, roughly 300 days of the year. If the governors could add 100 million dollars to be spent, it would represent more ??, small ?? of these actions. These are some of the …public expense. I urge people of America to be angry towards less to the governors and more to ?? (Man with normal voice:) This is one of 50 thousand …Michigan State University".

Friday, it went off at 1834:04. So you should have plenty of time to check it out, if it stays on as long as Friday. Reception around North America seems to indicate it's in the western Great Lakes region. At least it was strongest and most readable in the upper mid-west. It wasn't on yesterday. If you have any idea what this is, please let me know. Thanks. 73 Dave``

I told Dave I was not hearing it at 1422 and he replied at 1439: ``Yes, I have it now with audio, obviously on a peak. Very deep fades. Was best on a web receiver in Indiana earlier. The speech sounds like Hoover. This is just totally baffling. Brett Saylor came up with the best possible explanation so far.... "from an exhibit (like Hoover's birthplace, which is a National Park Service historic site in Iowa), sort of like that Old Time Radio station on 6770".``

Meanwhile I found lots more about it at this thread:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,41132.0.html

Dave replied at 1458: ``Thanks to Brett Saylor's great sleuthing, the loop recording airing on 9025 is taken from the Vincent Voice Library at Michigan State University. This recording exactly:
http://archive.lib.msu.edu/VVL/vincent/presidents/mp3/coolidge.mp3
Now, is the transmission coming directly from the MSU campus?? At least we know what the loop is`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
