Glenn Hauser logs November 18-19, 2017

** ARGENTINA [non]. 7730 // 5850, UT Sat Nov 18 at 0717 and later, WRMI is playing World Music fill, VG ME style at the moment, instead of RAE ATTW in English, which is supposed to air from UT Tue thru Sat during this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also USA

** BIAFRA [non]. 11530, Nov 18 at 1857, WRMI IS & ID loop, S9+10 to S8 (while 11580 WRMIBS is S9-S7). 1900 tune and YL opening Radio Biafra Broadcasting from London, shortly the 3-frequency schedule lacking 9580 which the OM sometimes mentions for this transmission. I check 9580 too and only a JJBA carrier; no more time to listen today. I`m surprised that apparently no one in Europe has checked for RBBFL on 9580, or whatever may really be occupying it at this hour.

Richard Langley, NB, says: ``Looking at the WRMI transmitter/antenna-field-layout, transmitter #7 and transmitter #10 can connect to the 87° Africa beam double rumboid [sic]. So, one of these combinations is likely being used. And I guess it's supplying a decent signal off the back lobe for stateside listeners to hear it. Although they claim they are broadcasting from London, the text message number they give is a Nigerian one: 234 810 617 7870.``

And Wolfgang Büschel, Nov 18: ``Re 11530 kHz RMI Okeechobee TX#4 relay, old fashioned horizontal rhombic antenna in use, 'small 87 degrees azimuth' angle though, JBA on threshold in western Europe, only S=2 or -108dBm in the poor. S=4 -98dBm JBA threshold at best in Grenoble France unit. S=5 tiny poor signal in remote Detroit MI.

RMI Florida horizontal rhombic masts visible at
G.C. 27°27'19.41"N 80°55'40.44"W
in Google Maps visible see

In western Europe 7240 kHz was S=9+10 in Liverpool, S=9+15dB in Belgium, Bavaria Germany, Grenoble France. S=8 signal at best in NJ-US east coast, but poor at S=6 in Detroit Michigan SDR unit``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 11760, Nov 18 at 2157, RHC is in Arabic! // weaker 15370. 11760 is not supposed to resume until 2200 in Spanish. More slipshod operations by RadioCuba, where something is always wrong.

BTW, the B-17 RHC schedules all show the languages to ``Western Europe`` (including Arabic!) are on a 10-degree azimuth, which is pretty far off: over Greenland, Svalbard, Novaya Zemlya and across mainland Russia east of the Urals, i.e. ASIA! So far east, that beyond most of Kazakhstan, right across Tibet, into Bangladesh. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Of course, maybe excuse that these beams are broad? They should hope so (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUAM. 11800, Nov 18 at 2203, beautiful gospel quartet harmony in unknown language, but 2205 YL talk is in Indonesian, altho mentions Malaysia; fair averaging S9. KSDA is scheduled this hour, but also RRI Tsiganeshti in Spanish --- no sign of it; otherwise could produce quite a collision here. Is RRI still on 11800? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN [non]. 7584.939, Nov 18 at 0706, off-frequency modern ME music really stix out, YL announcement but cut off at 0710*, shortly carrier back on and off again for a split second.

*0711 back stronger on correct frequency 7585.000, Farsi talk and rock music, 0716 Farda IDs in passing. Yes, it`s R. Farda, scheduled 0400-0830, 250 kW, 58 degrees from KUWAIT (following 0230-0400 via Thailand). As usual, no jamming audible vs this clandestine service; why doesn`t Iran bother to do that? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [non]. 7490, UT Sat Nov 18 at 0438, I check the webcast of this WBCQ, and hear: Brother HyStairical! This is the hour originally publicized for Broad Spectrum Radio, later removed from their website for ``TBA``. It`s also the hour still showing on the WBCQ sked for `Financial Survival` coin-pushers UT Tue-Sat, so is that totally gone from this WBCQ timing??

If awake, one should also check for BSR, Monday 07-08 UT on WRMI 5850 & 7730, when I axually encountered it without warning last Monday Nov 13, and that was subsequently added to the WRMI skedgrid, but removed from the BSR website for TBA, the last time I checked.

NO, it`s back at
http://broadspectrumradio.com/2017/11/10/bsr-international-radio-magazine-show-november-2017/
but refers to dates Nov 11-18 only. And I no longer see a page saying all their SW broadcast times are TBA. So we can only wonder what`s really going on with this program and its scheduling (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1904 monitoring: NOT confirmed UT Saturday November 18 at 0030 on WBCQ, 9330v-CUSB: no signal, but this time other USA 9`s are JBA carriers: 9265, 9370, 9395 in degraded propagation.

Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, reports:
``GERMANY, Reception of World of Radio via HLR 6190-CUSB, Nov 18:
http://swldxbulgaria.blogspot.bg/2017/11/reception-of-world-of-radio-via-hlr_18.html
0731-0800 on  6190 GOH 001 kW / 230 deg to CeEu English Sat, weak``

Almost confirmed, HLR 7265-CUSB via UTwente SDR: Sat Nov 18 from 1526 during MN+, only CRI East Turkistan with south Asian songs, also during several chex in next semihour; during CRI pause at 1558, trace of modulation sounding like me; from 1600 much stronger CRI Russian. Alan Gale usually confirms this WOR at his more favorable further skip distance from Göhren in England.

I am still not sure 9330 is on the air at all, but will continue to check it until confirmed off. Propagation should not be a factor for the earlier 2230 WOR broadcast on Saturday only. (However, the online program sked still shows 2330, probably outdated info.)

So Sat Nov 18 at 2228, I am trying very hard to hear 9330v-CUSB, on three different radios with four different antennas: Maybe there is The Planet ID & IS, which should be playing first, or am I imagining it? I do find a JJBA carrier about 9328.185, but by 2236 cannot recognize the trace of modulation as WOR theme or me. (7490 and 3265 are not on, but 5130- is: see separate report about EMR.) Missed checking WRMI 11580 at 2300. Next:
Sun 0200   WRMI 11580 to NE
Sun 0410v  WA0RCR 1860-AM ND
Sun 1130   HLR  9485-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0030   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0400v  WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0430   WRMI 9955 to SSE
Tue 0030   WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 0030   WRMI 7730 to WNW
Tue 2030   WRMI 11580 to NE, 9455 to WNW, 7780 to NE [or 1905?]
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5129.82-AM, Sat Nov 18 at 2236, WBCQ is on here with weak signal, rock music, brief British-accented DJ, more music; next break at 2246 he does ID as European Music Radio, reference http://www.europeanmusicradio.com
So Tom Taylor is still on air, altho he sent this notice November 6:

``Dear EMR Listeners, Due to my Cancer condition (non-Hodgkin Lymphoma) that was diagnosed in February 2017, I regret to tell you that EMR will be off air until further notice. I hope to return EMR to the air at some Point in 2018. All the best from Tom Taylor. PS. More Pages to our Website will be added over the next few Months while EMR is off air!

European Music Radio``

We wish Tom the best! His WBCQ transmission had been on the third Saturdays at 2130, publicized as October 21 on 7490. But there has been no publicity about moving to 5130, one hour later as of November.

(7490 is not on yet as I am checking all WBCQ frequencies while WOR is missing from 9330. At 0025 recheck Nov 19, I measure 5129.84; and 7489.964)

Tom`s website now advises, ``EMR will be off air until Further Notice.
More Information is on our Contact Page!`` Which has the same wording as above. And also, ``The Coolest Music on Shortwave in Europe and North America --- 6070 via Channel 292 - 9485 via MV Baltic R & 7490 via WBCQ``. So maybe the next surprise appearance will be Dec 16 at 2230 on one frequency or another (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also OKLAHOMA [non]

** U S A. 11580, Nov 18 at 2158 I happen to be on 11580 WRMI with fill music, but cuts off the air at 2158:40*, back on at *2159:50, and 2200 into RAE Italian relay even tho it`s not a weekday. Not much difference in signal before and after the break, but unseems non-deliberate, as if making an antenna and/or transmitter change altho none is scheduled, rather 24/7, XMTR 9 at 44 degrees.

The program grid below the frequency grid at http://www.tinyurl.com/WRMIfqs has a blank space for this hour on Saturdays, i.e. a line separating it from M-F RAE Italian. Previous hour in RAE German is allegedly really M-F only, with Slovakia & Walking in Power on both Sat & Sun at 21-22 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also ARGENTINA [non]; OKLAHOMA [non]

** U S A. 1510, Nov 18 at 1955 UT, in a quick bandscan on a little daytrip west of Enid, north of Lahoma, nothing much of interest, but two stations mixing here. Rush repeat is ending second hour, 1958 UT ad for TexasSuperfoods.com with an 877- number, mentions Dallas. Website is not very helpful, just linx to products, not stores. Further web searching finds they are looking for ``home business``, ``independent sales representatives``. The closest Texan on 1510 is KCTX Childress TX, 250 watts D1, listed in NRC AM Log as NOS/REL format. One with a Dallas address, but really east of The Metroplex in Canton, is KWJB, 500 watts D4, classic rock.

Also at 1958 UT an ad for window installers, sanctioned by some Kansas authority; 1959 UT ``Candid Auction Moment`` (?), address at 340 S. Broadway in some town. Partial legal ID then for ``The Victory``, KFMR? FM, and 2000 UT Fox ``news``. This is certainly KNNS, 1000 watts D1 in Larned KS, and the FM per NRC Log is KRMR 105.7 ``The Patriot``. WTFDA FM Database agrees on the slogan, but it`s really in Hays and shows no connexion with KNNS or any AM station. KNNS is a talker, Fox-affiliated, and must be the one with Rush (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VATICAN. 9660, Nov 18 at 2102, S9-S7 news about the Prémio Ratzinger, so got to be Vatican Radio; in Portuguese but Brazuguese accent. It`s 100 kW, 234 degrees direct from SMG CVA at 2100-2130 daily, per Aoki. I thought this good signal might be a relay back from Madagascar.

CIRAF target is only 46W, where the only Portuguese-speaking ex-colony is Guinea-Bissau, but this bearing carries right on to Brasil, where chances are they have a lot more listeners, as Brasil`s population is 112 X that of G-B (but the relative proportions of Catholix with SW radios is up for conjexure). Since the Brasilians have to put up with Luso accents on several SW stations which no longer broadcast to them but to Africa, it`s only fair that the Bissauans have to put up with Brazilian accents (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
