Glenn Hauser logs May 20, 2016

** ALASKA [and non]. 11765, May 20 at 1308, YL in Chinese with heavy RHC slop, so KNLS? No, this is // the CNR1 jammers on 11785. At 1424, 11765 still has heavy splash from 11760; seems to be English in KNLS style as scheduled, but useless here.

EiBi shows a big mess on 11765 after 1400: not only KNLS, but CNR1 jamming against Sound of Hope, and CRI English from Urumqi to Pakistan! The Chinese before 14 could otherwise be RTI which also Must Be Jammed. 14-15 is the only hour KNLS is registered for 11765. Perhaps KNLS should move, or do they just like to be competitive? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 13690, May 20 at 1250, S9 open carrier/dead air; by 1301 there are two CNR1 jammers echoing, and a third weaker echo, all against VOA Mandarin via Saipan during this hour only. Since I`m not hearing much of that after 1300, I guess the earlier carrier was a jammer too (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330.380v-AM, May 20 at 0547, the WBCQ test is still running, only S3 and can`t tell whether it`s still Brother Scare.

9330.305-AM, May 20 at 1257, WBCQ test is *still* (or again) running, S4 but just barely modulated: I can recognize AW`s voice with his promo for new program clients. An hour later at 1358 at first I think it`s off, but then detect the offset carrier in addition to a very weak one on 9330.0, possibly a ute. HFCC shows nothing but BCQ registered on 9330 for 24 hour availability. Aoki adds the Cuban spy numbers, but only between 0553 and 0748. Likewise EiBi, adding World of Radio on WBCQ at 0200-0230 daily --- which was never the case, just a projected plan, instead at 2330 daily except 2230 Saturdays! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ZAMBIA. 9680, Fri May 20 at 0553, VOH Africa is back on with a carrier detectable, music? After two days of power outages. Remember that on Sat & Sun there is not supposed to be a morning broadcast on 9680, but instead at 12-17 UT. The China Radio War is finished at 1400, so after then, VOHA might make it at least as far as western North America by longpath – barring another power failure (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13590.43, May 20 at 1253, S7 open carrier, dead air on this strange off-frequency, lite fading. Still the same after 1300, but now there is a weak het from something on 13590.0. HFCC shows 13590 with IBB in Pashto via SRI LANKA at 13-14, switching to Kuwait at 14-17. 13590.43 still OC at 1319, S5-S7; and at 1430 on 13590.432, OC vs CODAR. Could be another ute (not UTE, as short for utility is *not* an initialism) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
