Glenn Hauser logs March 25-26, 2016

** ANGUILLA. 6090, March 26 at 0251, FINALLY, University Network modulation is OK, during PMS; also OK on day frequency 11775 at 1712. It only took them 8 days; but we`ll be hearing if it`s a permanent fix (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 9819.26, March 26 at 0225, JBA carrier; must be R. Nove de Julho, as nothing closer to 9820.0. Seems to be drifting lower and lower, but it was already being reported a sesquimonth ago on ``9819.2`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CONGO. 6115, March 26 at 0604, JBA carrier, so is it Brazzaville or Tokyo? The previous date, Ron Howard in California reported:

``March 25, tuned in to 6115 at 0514 to find very weak open carrier;
later heard distinctive pop song clearly // 9760 (strong reception);
so only "RN2" (Japan) here till 0533. Tuned away to check 5005 (RNGE) for possible sign on from 0534 to 0540, but nothing heard there. Re-tuned 6115 at 0540 to find that Radio Congo had signed on between 0534 and 0540; many times stronger than "RN2"; series of announcers clearly in French (no African music heard); "RN2" extremely weak underneath; by 0555 had Japan getting stronger and Congo getting weaker. As usual "RN2" was playing non-stop EZL pop songs`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CONGO DR. 5066.4, March 26 at 0257, JBA carrier, presumed R. CANDIP on its signature off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6060, March 26 at 0600 as I tune in, RHC music stops on English service, but carrier remains on, so I check all the others: same deal on 6000, 6100 and 6165; and 5040 is off the air. So is this another anomaly or do they now intend to stop at 0600 instead of another hour in English until 0700? Normally that remains during DST season despite the lateness of the hour. Maybe they`re still not sure about what to do during the two sesquiweeks of confusion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** FRANCE. 9675, March 26 at 0605, RFI English is poorly audible; it`s generally been inaudible all winter. A-16 schedule
http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A16&broadc=RFI
shows it will go back to 13725 from March 27, 500 kW, 170 degrees from Issoudun, remaining the ONLY English hour on the entire RFI SW schedule (but then there`s WRMI, altho RFI apparently used only as filler, not necessarily showing at times listed). 13725 reception may not pick up here until later with summery nite MUFs (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 7370, March 26 at 0238, poor S7 signal with Qur`an. Aoki shows it`s the Palestinian service of VIRI, 0230-0530, relaying "Al-Quds TV", 500 kW, 250 degrees from Kamalabad. A16 schedule shows 7370 continuing, and // 11660 via Zahedan (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ROMANIA. 7340 // 5910, both good, UT Sat March 26 at 0240, RRI Romanian service playing song ``Those Were the Days`` in English, then W&M DJs discuss it, and play a Romanian version; 0242 break into same song themselves. Sounds like they are having a good time! This comes after a Radio Romania International jingle ID, so this is not a domestic service relay as I had thought. 0244 on to another song. UT Sat 02-03 is the `Verba Manent` show I mentioned before (The Words Remain), and which from next week is destined to shift one UT hour earlier and to 7335 & 9790. 5910 was OK this time, no Colombian het (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN. 7204.0, March 26 at 0302, poor AM carrier amid LSB QRhaM including one right on 7204; nothing on 7205. Still there at 0457 recheck, when maybe just barely modulated. This was widely reported earlier Euroevening March 25, presumed Omdurman, maybe avoiding ACI from 7210. Thorsten Hallmann, Germany, followed up March 26: ``The odd frequency makes it easy to monitor via Twente waterfall or southern European remote receivers. Clearly there after 0600, being able to follow a faint carrier until 0900. Traced again close after 1300, audible with Arabic talk now towards 1500`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN [and non]. 7316.308, March 26 at 0502, jamming carrier against Radio Dabanga on 7315.0. I had heard 7204.0 a few minutes earlier, so apparently not the same Omdurman transmitter in a dual purpose. The jamming should have started no later than 0430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7425, March 26 at 0229, tune-in just in time to hear S8 Vatican Radio IS mixing with Radio Martí audio, disappears a few seconds before 0230 as the 7305 Greenville transmitter turns off, terminating this leapfrog mixing product another 60 kHz higher over 7365. Both are scheduled to continue in A-16, so so will 7425 at 0130-0230 (tho we have sometimes found it mysteriously missing, due to some temporary change in parameters?) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1818 monitoring: confirmed on BST-1 caradio, Friday March 25 at 2130 on WRMI 15770, sufficient, and at 2130.5 on WRMI 13695, very good. Also confirmed March 25 at 2330 on WBCQ 9329.915-CUSB.

Also confirmed Sat March 26 from 1531 on Hamburger Lokalradio, Göhren, Germany, 1 kW, 7265-CUSB via UTwente: sufficient, well above CRI Hindi service music, 100 kW southward from Kashgar, but by 1540 the CCI is growing and HLR is losing out. The shift next week to 1430 UT will still have CRI continuing to collide with the Sinhala service during that time, altho an additional hour of daylight intervening may help us out. Next:
Sat 1930v  WA0RCR 1860-AM ND

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7504.94, UT Sat March 26 at 0301, I`m trying to catch the Chinese broadcast from WRNO, allegedly UT Thu & Sat 03-04 or so. Usual gospel huxter with strange accent in English; seems obsessed with the number ``26`` as it applies to various dates somehow connected with wacky prophecy. This sermon goes on and on, 0306, still 0338 when I quit checking; no Chinese (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1380, March 26 at 0320 UT, Spanish hymn in ranchera style, loops SSE/NNW; 0321 UT live DJ outros as ``Desde el Cielo Descendió`` (he came down from heaven), takes request calls from pious ``hermanas`` to 713-589-1460, ID in passing ``Radio Aleluya, buenas noches``, 10:22 TC. It`s KRCM Shenandoah TX relaying KMIC 1590; dominant signal and obviously still on 22 kW day power instead of 43 watts night. Like so many gospel huxters, they think they are ``above the law`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1680, UT Sat March 26 at 0325 UT, LSU Tiger baseball game vs Texas A&M, with ``charge`` trumpet tune (isn`t that more apropos for football?): KRJO Monroe LA, soon found to be // 1130 KWKH Shreveport with slight echo; and at 0328 UT same game also on 870 WWL New Orleans, ``LSU Sports Radio Network``, but during ad break not //; or when game coverage resumes I find that WWL is running 14 seconds behind the others (so a quick bet could pay off against someone cluelessly listening to the delay). Now, why does this need to be on three `big` stations? Any listener to KWKH or KRJO could also be hearing it on WWL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1500, March 26 at 0319 UT, the warbling spurs slightly above and below the frequency are again/still audible, especially with KSTP nulled. Previous monitoring led to one of the minor stations in the MO/IL/KY area, but AFAIK no one has confirmed which one (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re my 4766 mystery carrier log of March 25 at 1007, gaisma.com doesn`t know about Leh, but sunset in Srinagar was 1317 UT, so 1007 UT, more than three hours before, would seem rather too early to be propagating on 60m eastward. So AIR Leh, Kashmir as source rather than on 4760 seems unlikely. Should be something further east.

Just how early can it be detected? Surprised we aren`t seeing any reports of, or interest in this from south or the rest of Asia, nor Australia/NZ. Just Ron Howard`s latest log from the California coast: ``UNID on 4766 returned again! Well heard open carrier March 24, checked at 1142 and subsequent checking till 1444; some QRM from 4765.0. Never any audio on 4766`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9714.91, March 26 at 0229, JBA carrier. Nothing listed until *0300 BSKSA HQS 500 kW in Aoki & EiBi, so maybe this on early; but no 9715 for BSKSA in HFCC B-15 or A-16 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9890.030, March 26 at 1339, S9+10 open carrier/dead air; only thing in Aoki supposed to be on 9890 at this hour is CNR13, Lingshi in Uyghur; no way it`s that. Nor any other 9890 station, all Asian, from other dayparts. More like it`s something domestic, such as Greenville, but no obvious reason to be running a carrier here & now; nor would GB likely be that far off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
