Glenn Hauser logs August 29-30, 2015

** MEXICO. 1300, Aug 29 at 0548 UT, I am rechecking 24 hours later the SS circumstantially identified as XEP, Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Again a dominant signal from WSW (or ENE), apropos for 38,000 rather than legal 200 watts, but plenty of CCI. Is playing romantic song, ``Aquellos Ojos Verdes``; 0551 ``En Radio México Noticias, también música bonita``, then ``16 Tons`` in English! but not by TennErnFord, no bass this one. 0557, Radio México Noticias promo, federal promo for La Hora Nacional, promo some RMN morning shows; more music; 0602 ``Escuchas Radio México Noticias``, no further ID and into choral NA. 0604, NA is over already, and finally an ID for Radio México Noticias, including XEP call. This station is obviously determined to maintain its ``news`` identity even when playing music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 9925, Aug 30 at 0127, JBA carrier from Mighty KBC via GERMANY, so another propagational bust: can`t wait till next week for the QSY to 7375. Little from Europe+ is making it on 9: Albania, Turkey, Cairo all JBACs, and Greece must be off again from both frequencies. WWV reported:

``Solar-terrestrial indices for 29 August follow.
Solar flux 100 and estimated planetary A-index 16.
The estimated planetary K-index at 0000 UTC on 30 August was 2.
No space weather storms were observed for the past 24 hours.
Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be minor.
Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level are likely.

The estimated planetary K-index at 0300 UTC on 30 August was 2.
Space weather for the past 24 hours has been minor.
Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level occurred.
Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be minor.
Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level are likely.``

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925.16-AM, Aug 30 at 0103, pirate music reading S6 but barely audible; presumed Liquid Radio on its signature crystal (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6965-USB, Aug 30 at 0139, music at good level, S9; 0140 ``nobody knows indie rock like DJ Dick Weed. This is Radio Free What-ever``. Allan Weiner said last night on WBCQ that pirates should use AM instead of SSB; but the SSB ones generally do better here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Aug 30 at 0059, JBA carrier from R. Chaski, until autocutoff at 0106:49.5* which 38 seconds later than last catch six nights ago on Aug 24 at 0106:11.5 --- i.e., averaging 6.33 later per (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. Saturday at 1430 when World of Radio is supposed to be on, No signal audible from Hamburger Lokalradio on 7265 via UTwente. Same as on Wednesdays. Can anyone hear it? Even Tom Taylor? 73, (Glenn Hauser, OK, Aug 29, BDXC-UK yg via DXLD)

World of Radio confirmed here on 7265 at 1440 UT tune-in but it`s a very weak signal, SIO 242 at best, improving slightly at 1445. I think that Twente, being that much closer to Germany, must be in the skip zone. 73s (Dave Kenny, Caversham Berks UK, AOR 7030+ 25m long wire, ibid.)

This morning via Twente signals from Germany only on 3985 kHz and 3995 kHz. Not even a carrier visible on 49 m and 41 m. 73 (Harald Kuhl, Germany, ibid.)

Hi Glenn, No problem here in northwest England, I just finished listening to it. It wasn't very strong, especially at the start, but was perfectly readable throughout much of the last 20 minutes (Alan Gale, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Next:

** U S A. 5085, UT Sunday Aug 30 at 0109, WTWW-2 is off, so no QSO show tonight.

12104.94, Aug 30 at 0134, instead Ted is transmitting nothing but 30 over 9 dead air here except for some hum (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1560, Aug 29 at 0607 UT, very good signal dominating, unlike normal nightmiddle situation here, with sports talk by YL hostess, soon IDed as Yahoo Sports Radio, discussing TCU which on a national net doesn`t mean this is Texas, yet smax of KGOW Bellaire (Houston) TX, EXCEPT this loops roughly NE/SW, all wrong for KGOW, and which on night pattern throws out into the Gulf 15 kW, while day pattern goes NE with 46 kW (and is a bigsig even here to the NNW around SR/SS. If this is it despite the DF, has to be on day pattern).

This site
does NOT have any listing of affiliates, just a bunch of sports news stories linked! Furthermore, searching yahoosports on KGOW gets no hits!

Strength, power, DF and network are all wrong for our puny OKC sports outlet, KEBC Del City, 1/0.25 kW like an old graveyarder. WMBH Joplin MO closer to east is another sportster, but is ESPN, even punier at 35 watts night. So WHAT IS THIS?? Some otherstation with a format flip? KLNG Council Bluffs IA is a 10 kW daytimer, sometimes nighttimer, but Christian the last we knew and in the new NRC AM Log. Another possibility: WPAD Paducah KY, 10/5 kW, which is now branded for its puny FM translator ``The Fan 99.5``, with a ``lineup`` showing some NBC Sports Radio, mostly Fox Sports Radio, including 1-5 am CDT (even weekends?), no YSR (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2600.0, Aug 30 at 0056 UT, JBA signal on AM as I am tuning for the Canadian marine weather on 2598 (not heard), but this is something new; trace of music? Most likely a 2 x 1300 harmonic, so could it be WNQM Nashville? Just because they mix with WWCR onto 6220 doesn`t mean they also put out direct harmonix. Also crossed by slow ionosonde. Gone at recheck 0110 UT. So the unID`s official sunset could have been 0100 UT, off or to lower power. WNQM should do that at 0045 UT correctly in August, but we suspect they were not strictly compliant. The 0100 UT strip would be somewhat west of Nashville, such as IL, MS – plenty of possibilities. To be chased further. BTW, no carrier on 2660 at this time from presumed KGLD 1300 Tyler TX (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6940-CW, Aug 30 at 0101 as I am scanning for voice pirates, someone is roughly hand-keying a long string of Vs, and then a message I don`t copy, but never heard a DE. Pirate? There is also a RTTY signal much of the time in the 6940s intruding among pirates (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7200-LSB, Aug 30 at 0120, someham is playing music, fragment of ``My Way`` by Sinatra; other hams in net including K5FAB continue talking with seeming little note of it; about WDBJ.

7000-LSB, Aug 30 at 0138, as I start another scan downward of the pirate band, brief bit of music here too amid the CW; same guy? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
