Glenn Hauser logs December 12-13, 2013

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 13 at 0645, RHC in wrong language, Spanish instead of English, while the other four overkill frequencies remain in English, 5040, 6060, 6100, 6165. From ``fin de noticias`` into ``deportes``. Lucky Spanish, gets to be on the air at all after 0600 scheduled closedown on all frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA [and non]. 15190, Dec 12 at 1957, JBA carrier from R. Africa direct, and continuing past 1900 with trace of modulation until WRMI finally cuts on at *2008:18 with music, making SAH, Day 12 of the RAN/RAN self-collision.

The previous R. Africa frequency from WRMI, 17790 with only fair signal, at 1958 was ending ``TLLB``, meaning Truth, Light & Life Broadcast, from Virginia with an 800 number; 1959 Radio Africa Network ID announces QSY to 15190 at 2000 (not 2008!), and off 17790 by 2000* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 7475, Dec 13 at 0641, presumed Thessaloniki with undermodulated Greek music, instead of 7450 this time. Still nothing audible on 9420 or higher frequencies in daytime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 9775, Dec 13 at 1337, I`m rechecking the secret R. Free Chosun transmitter, since yesterday it broadcast a musical prélude in English. First the carrier is cutting on and off the air several times, 1340 stays on, 1342.7 starts the segué songs; same ones as yesterday including at 1353 ``I`m Stayin` for the Long Run``. Seems it was originally by The Eagles, but don`t know what YM is singing it now, with YLs backup; 1359, ``At Seventeen`` is playing again too, 1400 into RFC opening in Korean. Once again the 9775 signal rivals if not surpasses VOA Korean via Philippines on 9800, and no way 9775 is transpolar from Uzbekistan or Tajikistan, disinformation in the listings (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 9955, Dec 13 at 1351, instead of Slovakia, KBS World radio still via WRMI, discussion about sanxions vs North Korea; 1358 quiz questions again, cut off before e-mail address can be uttered, for `WRMI Scoreboard` just before 1359; fair signal before beam change from SSE to NW during Scoreboard had been much weaker than BS on 9690 to the west (285 degrees, same as on 11730 in evenings), which still hasn`t moved off AIR`s frequency. Then 9955 is much stronger for Zanotti ID and at 1400 `Words of Life` from Georgia (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 870, Dec 13 at 1317, XETAR ID and explaining instruxions for submitting PSAs, what is acceptable/eligible and what not, 6:17 timecheck, all in Spanish. The Tarahumara daytime station in Guachochi, Chihuahua (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND [and non]. 5950, Dec 13 at 1347, song in English, so RNZI is finally back on proper frequency, after using A-13`s 6170 every Friday in the B-13 season until now, vacant.

9625-9630-9635, Dec 13 at 1350, NO DRM noise today unlike yesterday from presumed RNZI; so the 9625 carrier already on from RTI is in the clear, and also after 1400 in Vietnamese (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1699 monitoring: confirmed first airing Thursday Dec 12 from 2200:56 on WTWW-1, 9475. Also confirmed second airing, UT Friday Dec 13 from 0429:15 on WWRB, 3195; again, // 5050-USB is no longer in use. Next:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15825, Thu Dec 12 at 2010, WWCR is advertising ``magnetic therapy``. Per program sked, at 2005-2015 M, T, TH and F is `Lyon Legacy` --- or rather Lyin`? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1220, Dec 13 at 1336 UT, ``KRZK Newstime, 7:36`` after severe weather notice, and before Branson ad. Guess what, the 1220 station in Branson per NRC AM Log is KOMC, and // KOMC-FM on 100.1 (or is it 101.1?). So what`s KRZK? Obviously inspired by ``Ozark``, altho in jumbled order. (KZRK is the 1550 TIS station in Branson, and unrelated KZRK-FM is on 107.9 in Canyon TX.) There is no KRZK (AM) call in the NRC Log cross-reference. A recent change? FCC AM Query does not have any KRZK on AM either. How about FM? Yes, 106.3 is KRZK and it`s also jointly owned with KOMC. Would it be too much to ask for the proper callsign to be mentioned on 1220?

This is a productive DX frequency with none nearby and lots of little stations; earlier at 1332 I was hearing some religionist counterclockwise from KRZK (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1520, Dec 13 circa 0230 UT on caradio, heavy interference to KOKC OKC, also making considerable SAH. I asked, ``Some other talk station in English has really been tearing up 1520 KOKC here in OK last night and again tonight, but hard to null KOKC enough to get an ID. Any idea who`s out of whack?``

Reply from Tom Jasinski, Joliet IL at 0427: ``It's  KOLM "The Ticket" with sports - they are bombing in here now``. That`s Rochester MN, and IIRC it`s nothing new for them: NRC AM Log shows day, and critical hours, 10000 watts; night 800 watts, and PSRA of 11.5 watts. U8 = ND day, one direxional pattern night and another for CH (which should not be applicable at these hours). NRC Pattern Book 2013 is not set up to show more than two patterns, but 800 watts night is supposed to be direxional *away* from KOKC and me. Obviously it`s really running 10 kW non-direxional now (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
