Glenn Hauser logs October 21, 2013

** BANGLADESH. 15505, Oct 21 at 1356, Bangladesh Betar open carrier is on, poor with flutter; at 1356:19, 1 kHz tone; 1357:48, IS past 1400; timesignal ends at 1400:13, opening Urdu in time for me to retune to 7120 for SOMALILAND, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake [non] CNR1 jamming, Oct 21 before 1400:
16100, fair at 1340 with flutter; none higher
15575, poor at 1342 with flutter: // 16100 so NOT KBSWR, buried
15545, very poor at 1343 with flutter
15265, fair at 1343, lo het from Taiwan off-frequency
15115, good at 1343 with flutter, CCI
13970, fair at 1344 with flutter; none in the 14s
13830, poor at 1344; none in the 12s
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** COSTA RICA. 11815, Oct 21 at 1234, Spanish about Japan`s economy, but NHK itself is way under this, i.e. REE relay. My previous note about its schedule from Aoki as not starting weekdays until 1800 was obviously incorrect, not aided by REE`s confusing and changeable scheduling depending on day of week. Aoki axually shows 11815 as:
1200-1500 Mon-Fri
1200-2300 Sunday
1600-2300 Saturday
1800-2000 Mon-Fri

EiBi also has 11815 on from 1200 Mondays, but differs otherwise:
11815 1200-1500 Su-Fr E Radio Exterior España    S   SAm         /CTR
11815 1500-1600 Su    E Radio Exterior España    S   SAm         /CTR
11815 1600-1800 SaSu  E Radio Exterior España    S   SAm         /CTR
11815 1800-2000       E Radio Exterior España    S   SAm         /CTR
11815 2000-2300 SaSu  E Radio Exterior España    S   SAm         /CTR

HFCC A-13 registration merely shows 11815 available from 1000 to 2300 every day. Within that span, REE can jumble it however they wish (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KUWAIT. 21540, Oct 21 at 1353, R. Kuwait fair signal is the SSOB as usual, but now it`s JBM, Arabic cutting on and off during drama (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 700, Oct 21 at 1159 UT, music right across hourtop, no NA, 1203 finally ID as ``La Poderosa`` and again at 1205, more music. Making SAH of 76/minute = 1.27 Hz with WLW roughly opposite. So XEGD in Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua has decided to modulate with something other than hum as 24 hours ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 930, Oct 21 at 1214 UT, WKY OKC airing long string of commercials for Mundo-Fox, plugging various programs, including ``The Breach en Español``, ``José de Egipto``, in a loop such that Breach comes around again at 1219. Always branded as ``45.2 digital``, so is it only available as an off-the-air subchannel? They tell would-be viewers to ask their cable or satellite providers for it, a clue.

RF 45 and virtual 45 in OKC is KOHC, a 15 kW digital class-A station per W9WI.com. Mundo-Fox is also branded as 45.2 in Spanish newspaper ads; and IIRC, Azteca América is on another subchannel, none indicated in W9WI.com. KOHC doesn`t make it to Enid, unlike full power 45s KOTV in Tulsa and KSNW in Wichita, and can only wonder how much these rip up KOHC close to OKC with a little tropo enhancement. Meanwhile, in Enid, RF31 and RF32 continue to provide 31.2 as Mundo-Fox, except it`s been nothing but silence and full color bars for weeks now (and 31.3 as Azteca, silence and black screen, whenever checked) (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1380, Oct 21 at 1224-1229+ UT, Spanish with norteña, M&W DJ chatter, steady signal and partly readable when nearest local 1390 KCRC splatter abates, and nulling it as much as possible. Presumably is KMUS ex-Muskogee, now officially Sperry meaning Tulsa market. Some sunrise skip enhancement as it hardly can make it here on groundwave (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 15120, Oct 21 at 1401, hi-pitched continuous ``propeller`` noise, no intelligible modulation. Presumably malfunxion of the scheduled BSKSA Bengali service at 1200-1457, 500 kW, 70 degrees from Riyadh, per Aoki. HFCC shows span as 1200-1600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOMALILAND. 7120-, Oct 21 at 1355, R. Hargeisa, JBA AM carrier with CW QRhaM including a V-test; slightly on the lo side compared to 1120 KEOR, which is within 4 Hz of KMOX, and this is further off than that. Able to just-barely hear it until cut off at 1401:07* for one-hour break before evening transmission 15-19v UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5830, Oct 21 at 1348, WTWW-1 still on night frequency past 1300 instead of 9479, with SFAW. 5085, Oct 21 at 1350, WTWW-2 still on night frequency past 1300 instead of 9930, with TOM/BS. 12105, WTWW-3 not on the air at 1350 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** VATICAN. 7250, Oct 21 at 0528, VR has turned on early, not with IS, but picking up the end of the English non-broadcast, Veronica with closing announcements, ``until next weekend,`` concluding as always with ``Laudetur Iesus Christus``, 0529 right into bells; fair-good signal but better on 9645 after 0530 opening Latin mass with prefaces in various other Eurolangs (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7390, Oct 21 at 0527-0529*, open carrier good signal. Nothing scheduled; Romania in DRM until 0500; Albania in AM from 0700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
